What Type of Watch Band?

When you're choosing a watch for a gift, after making the decision on the basic type of watch, you'll need to decide on the type of band. Metal watch bands are generally considered a little more dressy than leather bands though both types can look great with khakis to suits to evening wear.

Watches that are waterproof or highly water resistant often have stainless steel, titanium or rubberized watch bands. You can often tell by the band if it will be okay to take to the pool or the beach.

Leather band watches often have a lot of bells and whistles that make them great to own but generally they are merely water resistant but are not meant to have repeated exposure to wet conditions as this will degrade the leather and cause premature aging of the band. That is why you don't see leather bands on diving watches.

If you're buying a gift for someone that is a true water sports buff, you can narrow down the selection to a metal or rubber banded watch. A Timex, Seiko or Citizen brand water sports watch will take them through many watery adventures and will keep the time perfectly. Should your gift recipient be a rock climbing buff, hang glider or other extreme sports enthusiast; a watch with an altimeter will fit the bill. Many of the altimeter watches also have barometers so the wearer can always stay one step ahead of any impending bad weather. Most of these type of watch is available in a leather band which will be light and comfortable.

Exercise lovers can get a great watch that will keep track of their laps, heart rate and some watches even have GPS. These watches come in both metal or leather bands and will look excellent while the wearer exercises.

Choosing a watch gets down to individual preferences, but if you know the basic interests of your gift recipient, you can narrow down your choices to the perfect wrist watch in no time.
