Replacing Watch Batteries
If you have a watch that uses a standard battery, you can save money by learning to replace the battery yourself. First of all make sure that your watch warranty doesn't cover battery replacements, if it doesn't changing your own battery is very easy.
First, you will need to have a new battery ready to put in your watch. Buy the proper battery for your make/model of watch.
Next, flip your watch over and look at the back. There will be a small tab or concave area on the back of the watch, slip a small knife in the area and gently slide to the right or left (your choice). Try not to use the point of the knife, use the flat edge of the knife to raise up the watch back.
Do not touch any other parts within the back of the watch or you may render certain functions useless. If you have a diving watch, they must be pressurized and you can not change the battery yourself without rendering the watch totally useless.
There may be a rubber gasket that falls out when you take off the back case, this is to help your watch stay water resistant. Then, carefully pop the battery out and put the new battery that you purchased into the watch. Put the gasket in place (if there was one) and put the metal cover back on your watch. Viola! You have changed your
watches battery.
Learning to do basic watch maintenance like keeping your watch clean and changing the battery will enable you to keep your watch running in tip top shape for years to come.
