What Exactly Is A Water Resistant Watch?
Nearly all watches designed for sports and active lifestyles have some water resistant qualities in their design.
The degree given for the water resistance is the maximum sustained water resistance under laboratory controlled circumstances. It's a good rule of thumb for measuring water resistance, but if your watch is water resistant to 50-meters that doesn't mean you can take your watch repeatedly to 49-meters underwater with no ill effects.
The resistant part of the water resistant definition means it only resists water, if you want a watch that for certain won't get water into the case, look into some of the fantastic diving watches out there like the styles that both Citizen and Seiko offer up. Those type of diving watches are more than water resistant - they are made to dive deep and they are pressurized and can only have batteries replaced and such at authorized dealers as the watch must be pressurized again once the work has been done.
A water resistant watch is going to hold up just dandy against the occasional rain storm you get caught in, snorkeling, showering, and other day to day activities and is usually a great choice if you are looking for a watch that can go pretty much everywhere.
Last word about water resistance, don't forget that the water resistance label is referencing only the case of your watch. A leather watch strap won't hold up to repeated wetting without degrading. If you're going to wear your watch when you swim, snorkel, or dive- get a watch with a steel or even better nylon or rubberized watch band.

Choosing Your Child's First Watch
If your child has graduated to the responsibility of wearing a watch -congratulations!
For your child's first watch, it is obviously going to take some abuse as most children play hard and any watch you buy for your child will have to stand up to that occasional time she forgets to take it off before a bath or a dip in the pool and the time that your little slugger slides hard into home while wearing his watch.
Timex and Nike both make outstanding watches for children. The Triax watch line for kid's by Nike comes with some cool features your child will enjoy. These watches were designed with the active child in mind and are water resistant to 50-meters. They also come with a digital time feature, two alarms which are great for helping your child learn boundaries such as being home by 5 for dinner, simply help your child set the alarm on his watch and no more missed deadlines to be home. There is also a simple stop watch, which is a neat feature not found on many children's watches, your child can time how long it takes to brush his teeth, ride his bike down the driveway or eat his broccoli.
Timex has a long history of making watches that "Take a licking and keep on ticking" if you have an active child, this line of watches is also a very good choice. Like all Timex watches, every watch in this line is made to last and water resistant to 30-meters. There are choices in straps from leather to rubberized plastic and all are shock resistant.
When you buy your child's first watch from Watches Giant, not only are you buying a quality name brand you know and trust, you are also buying from an authorized deal of these brands so your warranty on your timepiece is 100% in full effect.

When You're Buying A Watch As A Gift
It's fun to stop and it's fun to buy gifts to make other people smile. Whether it's for a birthday, anniversary, graduation or "just because"; a watch makes a great gift for anyone. Young or old, man or woman - all can benefit from a watch.
You will have many options when you're buying a watch for someone else. Try to get them the watch in the metal that they wear the most often. If someone wears lots of silver jewelry, they probably won't be as thrilled with a gold-toned watch than as with a silver-toned watch.
Decide if a metal band or a leather band would be better. Leather bands are definitely more casual. If your gift recipient is more the casual type of person, go for a leather band.
Next you will want to make a choice for the type of movement your watch will have. Will be a winding watch with no battery, a battery driven quartz watch, or a kinetic watch that is wound by movements of the wearer's arm? If you opt for the quartz, it would be a nice gesture to pick up an extra battery to give along with the watch.
You can find extra features such as calendars, stop watches and alarms. Choose the best watch for the gift recipient's lifestyle. Just knowing a little bit about who you are buying for will make giving them the perfect watch even easier!

Replacing Watch Batteries
If you have an inexpensive watch and you want to replace the battery yourself, it's very easy to do.
First, you will need to have a new battery ready to put in your watch. Buy the proper battery for your make/model of watch.
Next, flip your watch over and look at the back. There will be a small tab or concave area on the back of the watch, slip a small knife in the area and gently slide to the right or left (your choice). Try not to use the point of the knife, use the flat edge of the knife to raise up the watch back.
Do not touch any other parts within the back of the watch or you may render certain functions useless. If you have a diving watch, they must be pressurized and you can not change the battery yourself without rendering the watch totally useless.
There may be a rubber gasket that falls out when you take off the back case, this is to help your watch stay water resistant. Then, carefully pop the battery out and put the new battery that you purchased into the watch.
Put the gasket in place (if there was one) and put the metal cover back on your watch. Viola! You have changed a watch battery. Make sure that opening the back of your watch won't invalidate your warranty for your watch. If it will, best to take your watch to your neighborhood jeweler who can put a new battery in your watch usually rather quickly.
